Shoe Tales showcase and storytelling evening: November 3rd 2008
On November 3rd, 2008 Milgi Lounge in Cardiff opened its doors to the public for the Shoe Tales Story- craft night. On four flat screens looped a DVD displaying a selection of postcards recieved so far. A portfolio album displayed nearby all the original postcards sent into Shoetales over the past year. Visitors were fascinated by the huge variety of anecdotes, drawings, wordings and reflections about footwear. Two giant shoe sculptures, namely a classy Winkle Picker and a bright and adventurous Start- rite shoe stood in front of the screens and were a means ofinspiring people to respond to the project by making and telling their Shoe stories.
Collages, crosswords, limericks and cartoons were some of the inventive techniques people used to tell the world about their memorable shoes. As long as you have something to say then you can tell a story - people thrived from being given the chance to create something and think about something everyday in a new way. Refreshing, dynamic and collaborative, the evening generated about 100 new stories for the project and a table full of miniture shoe sculptures fit for, as one was labeled, 'tiny monopods mostly'
